Are you a talented Singapore based dancer who wants stage training and performance exposure - in Singapore and abroad? Join Singapore Youth Ballet Company and get 40 hours of training and rehearsals to perform in an original play on-stage in Singapore. SYBC dancers will also get scholarship opportunities for short-term training & performing with our professional international dance school partners.

2024 Performance

Path after the Storm – presented by Singapore Youth Ballet Company (SYBC). This modern ballet play took the audience on a dancer's journey of hardship, resilience and growth through difficult times. It was a performance with five Acts, with 65 talented SYBC dancers (aged 6-20 years old) sharing their story. The 2023 performance was held at the beautiful NUS UCC Theatre, on 1st December 2024.

2-5 June 2025: 1 week intensive performance training during school holidays

1 September 2025: Catch-up training during school holiday

November 2025: 1 weeks intensive performance training during school holidays

30 Nov 2025: Full dress-rehearsal, on-stage performance

Our Partners

National Ballet of China

Shanghai Ballet Company will select 1-2 SYBC dancers each year for a 1-week intensive training in Shanghai, together with their professional dancers at the Shanghai Ballet Company campus. This will be an amazing opportunity to experience ballet training from a professional company school and experience cultural exchange. The Shanghai Ballet Company is the state ballet company for Shanghai, China. This regional dance troupe was founded in 1966. They perform a blend of traditional and Western dance styles. The troupe is particularly well known for their performances of The White Haired Girl.

Norwegian National Ballet

The Norwegian National Ballet School will offer 2 dancers from SYBC 1-2 weeks of intensive training. The school is under the Norwegian National Ballet and has most of its training in the beautiful opera house in Oslo, sharing facilities with the ballet company. In addition to their training, students of the school participate when the company performs the big classics like Nutcracker and Swan Lake, and also in some of the contemporary works which have brought the company great success. The school has had finalists and prize winners in international competitions like Prix de Lausanne and Prix du Nord.

National Ballet of China

Bell Art Associazione Culturale is located in Mesagne, on the south-east coast in Italy. President of Bell Art, Mr. Valentin Bartes, has an extensive career as a dancer and choreographer. Mr. Bartes danced as a soloist with the Croatian National Ballet Theatre in Zagreb, and also performed in Croatian National Ballet Theatre in Spilt. He has choreographed and produced many well known ballet plays. Bell Art and Mr. Bartes will invite some of our dancers for a two week study program in Mesagne, Italy. These dancers may also be given the opportunity to participate in performances and/or competitions in Italy.

Claudia Dean will be sponsoring some of our lucky SYBC dancers with some of their amazing dancewear/apparel. Claudia Dean Collections is a luxury ballet and dance wear brand, where all garments are designed in Australia to suit every dancer.

Masterpiece International Ballet Competition

Masterpiece International Ballet Competition (MIBC) is one of the largest ballet competitions in Singapore, drawing hundreds of talented ballerinas to the stage each year. MIBC will be selecting two SYBC dancers to get free entry to the 2022 and 2023 season.

National Ballet School of Mongolia

The Mongolia National Ballet School will provide 2 SYBC dancers with a week of free intensive training. Senior experts from the Mongolian National Ballet School have trained a large number of outstanding local dancers in the past few years, winning gold and silver in top international ballet competitions, such as Beijing International Ballet competition, Korea International Ballet Competition, Shanghai International Ballet Competition and so on.

Masterpiece International Ballet Competition

The Asia Dance Arts Festival dance competition has regional competitions in China, with finals in Singapore. Since its establishment in 2017, ADAF has provided many dancers in China and Singapore with first-class dance performance opportunities and generous scholarships. The chairman of the competition, Mr. Hu Haiquan, is a famous Chinese singer and with his artistic taste he has established a high standard for stage lighting and stage beauty for the ADAF competition. ADAF will provide five free entries for SYBC dancers every year.

National Ballet of China

The National Ballet of China, Beijing based training academy, will each year provide 6 of our dancers with a one-week intensive training opportunity and accommodation; our dancers will have the opportunity to visit the professional dancers from National Ballet of China and perform at Beijing Tian Qiao Theatre. The academy is located in the heart of Beijing CBD area. Former principal dancers of the National Ballet of China will give classes to our SYBC dancers in person.

Red Dance Global Prix

Red Dance Global Prix is ​​a global tour jointly established by Beijing Dance Culture and Art Development Co., Ltd. and artists and dance associations from more than a dozen countries. From 2016 to 2021, it has been successfully held six times in the capital Beijing and Qingdao, and has received strong support from relevant government departments and embassies of various countries. Its goal is to build an international dance art exchange platform, to jointly promote the prosperity and development of dance in the world, and is praised as the Olympics in the dance industry.
The annual competition prize money is as high as CNY 300,000, plus the scholarships for studying abroad, which is a rare opportunity. The competition will give 4 SYBC dancers the opportunity to participate for free every year.

National Ballet of China

The Macau Youth Dance Troupe is a professional dance company and is committed to training local dancers in Macau. The performances of the company are very diverse - from contemporary dance plays to musical theatre, from art festivals to music festivals, the Macau Youth Dance Troupe is a splendid stage and professional platform. They will provide SYBC dancers one week contemporary dance intensive training every year. SYBC scholarship recipients will receive the guidance of the dance company’s Senior Choreographer and will have the opportunity to join the dance company’s performers on stage in Macau at the Macau Cultural Centre.

National Ballet of China

Asian Elite Dance Competition (AEDC) is one of the largest dance competitions in Asia, with 8 regionals (Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Xi An, Hong Kong, Qingdao, and more) with annual finals in Shenzhen. Each year more than 4,000 dancers participate in the competitions. AEDC will be giving free entries and intensive training scholarships to some of our SYBC dancers.

National Ballet of China

The Japanese Overseas Chinese International Dance Alliance (JOCIDA) has a wealth of dance resources and partners, from Japanese dance schools to ballet competitions to internship opportunities in Asia's oldest ballet company. The alliance will select 1-2 SYBC dancers every year to award one-week free study in Japan. The specific opportunities and organizations arranged through JOCIDA that will cooperate with SYBC every year will be personally presented by the founder of the alliance, Mr. Shao Zhijun, during the SYBC gala performance.

National Ballet of China

The Hong Kong Youth Dance Association was founded in 1981 and has a history of 40 years. The founder, Ms. Zhang Jiamei, has made outstanding contributions to the Hong Kong dance industry. The association sponsors and undertakes many internationally renowned dance competitions. YDA is located in the heart of Kowloon, Hong Kong. The school building covers an area of ​​more than 8,000 square feet - a large-scale dance practice venue. It will provide 2 of our dancers one week intensive training in person at the Hong Kong headquarters.

National Ballet of China

The China-Canada School was established in 1997 under the witness of the Prime Ministers of China and Canada and a number of government ministers. It has a history of 24 years and has 28 branches across China. Located in the beautiful coastal city of Qingdao, Jiahuang Zhongjia School has ballet majors in junior and senior high schools. The ballet major of Jiahuang Zhongjia School is taught by senior Chinese ballet masters, such as professors from Beijing Dance Academy and Professor of Dance Department of Shanghai Theater Academy and so on. Qingdao Jiahuang Chinese-Canada School selects 5 dancers from SYBC every year to come to the Qingdao school campus for 1-2 weeks of free training.

The Singapore International Dance Festival has a history of more than 10 years since its establishment. It is a dance art festival supported by the National Arts Council of Singapore and the Chinese Embassy in Singapore for a long time. The competition has made an outstanding and irreplaceable cultural contribution. The Singapore International Dance Festival will select two young SYBC dancers each year to directly advance to the finals and full registration fee.
